WinNonlin has slow performance with PKS on Windows XP SP2

***NOTE: this information applies to Windows XP SP2 users ONLY***

Several users have reported that WinNonlin interaction with the Pharsight Knowledgebase Server (PKS) becomes slow, after upgrading their Windows XP system to service pack (SP) 2. The performance issue is most noticeable when saving and loading large datasets to and from the PKS. This issue affects all supported WinNonlin and PKS versions, but does not affect WinNonlin standalone.

Microsoft has a hotfix available to address this problem. In summary, the problem occurs because of the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature of Windows XP. This hotfix will disable the exception-handling security checks when DEP is disabled. For details, and to obtain the hotfix, please refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919490.

This hotfix has been shown to correct the performance issue with WinNonlin 5.2 and Windows XP SP2, both in a Pharsight test environment as well as at a client site. PKS Clients 2.x and 3.x will have similar performance issues with Windows XP SP2, that are also resolved with this hotfix.
