Phoenix' new license model

It is a shame that the Floating license model is being dropped by Certara.

 

The new license model is based on named user management requiering considerable administrative effort, particularly for organizations with a larger user community and where certain users need the software only occasionally.

 

The new model is also vey inflexible as users who left the organization can only be de-registered twice a year and therefore block a license for this period.

 

Furthermore it costs considerably more without adding any obvious value.

 

I therefore plea Certara to re-introduce a model similar to the past Floating licenses! This would greatly help to manage this software.

It would be interesting to know how other companies see this.

For us it has a huge administrative and cost impact.

Certara has performed an extensive review of current client use and licenses that revealed widespread disparity in the value received per license, along with misunderstanding and/or misuse of licenses.  In response, we have decided to simplify and clarify the license model, consistent with software industry practice, so that our clients enjoy the same value across any technical environment. Replacing 1 concurrent license by only 2 named licenses is not really industry standard, the common ratio is about 1:4 or 1:5. And the constraint of a by-yearly update of the user base is another factor to consider when planning for the number of licenses to purchase. So it seems questionable whether Phoenix Quantum will offer unprescedent economic advantage. Furthermore, you also have to factor in the considerable internal effort to manage named users. This is particularly true for organizations with several hundred users and high turn-over. Costs could easily triple or quadruple.

I agree with Christian from Novartis that the new license model seems to be not at all adapted to our organizations which are changing very often. Research project teams are not always working on same topics an can be Phoenix-Winnonlin users only few times by year. Moving from floating licenses to named licenses is a regression = back to years 80-90.
